"What Is Art?" by Leo Tolstoy (excerpts)

Art is the Soul of a Community

There are many wonderful art organizations in and around the Boise area. Throughout the ages art has played a crucial role in life. Art is universal and because art is everywhere, we experience it on a daily basis. What is art? That is a question that has no set answer. Seeking understanding of the aesthetics of art by creating it or experiencing it, can take each one of us on a wondrous journey of self discovery. Mixed Bag Enterprises is a steadfast supporter of the arts and as such, offers you this resource to assist in discovering the art within and around you. Please feel free to contact me with any links you feel may enhance this effort.

Here is an excellent link to begin the journey into local art. This effort is pretty main stream but is full of information I will be adding more links for the alternive arts community in time. So now go and  Experience Boise
Potters Center The Potter's Center was established in 1976 as a retail and wholesale business for pottery and ceramic supplies and equipment. The owner and staff are potters who know the products offered and their proper uses in the various processes involved in creating works in clay. The Potter's Center Gallery offers a venue for Idaho's potters to show and sell their original pottery and works in clay. The Potter's Center Clay Studio offers pottery classes in wheel throwing and handbuilding and studio space. Pottery workshops are also offered to educate individuals with different methods of working clay.

I Am Wishing to Create Some Art

"The arts is a broad subdivision of culture, composed of many expressive disciplines. It is a broader term than "art", which as a description of a field usually means only the visual arts (comprising fine art, decorative art, architecture and crafts). The arts encompasses visual arts, literature, the performing arts, including music, drama, film, dance and related media, and by some definitions other areas such as fashion." A more complete list is given here from Wikipedia  This section is just a launch point for exploation.

I love beads and do beadwork. The history of beadwork (Articles > 1 ~~ 2 with links ~~ 3 ) goes back in our collective history a very long time. The variety of beads is simply mind blowing. A great book I highly recommend with excellent images is “The History of Beads: From 30,000 BC to the present”. There are so many websites devoted to beadwork anything I could add would be minimal. But I encourage you to take up the art. It is so much fun and there is no limit to the ways you can express yourself. Enjoy!
Ah, ceramics/pottery. What a wonderful thing to pursue. Clay is so forgiving and so inexpensive. So much to see and explore. History articles> 1 ~~ 2 ~~ 3 ~~.

Micellanious Resources/Supplies/Information for Artists

I like to recycle things for my art. I find things everywhere. Yard Sales, thrift stores, allys, street debris, in the dirt... Plant, stone, feathers and bone. Much can be gleaned from just taking a walk around the neighborhood from Mother Nature. Where do you get your materials for your art? Inspiration comes to me just from a single object at times. Even a crushed tin can might send me into a manic state of creativity. And you?
